The area is mourning the deaths of a mother and child as the result of a weekend car crash.

The Cabell County, West Virginia Medical Examiner contacted the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and advised that both passengers, Megan Jo Poole, 29 and her daughter Caydence Kegley, 7, have died due to their injuries.

At around 6:47 p.m. Saturday the OSHP responded to the scene of a crash on Ohio 104, approximately a quarter mile north of Crowe Hollow Road in Rush Township.

The driver, Jeremiah James Cunningham Dobbins, 25, of Portsmouth, Ohio was driving a silver 1999 Chevrolet Tracker northbound on Ohio 104. Troopers said Dobbins drove off the east side of the road and struck two utility poles.

Megan Jo Poole was a passenger in the front seat and Caydence Kegley a passenger in the back seat. While Dobbins refused treatment at the scene, Poole and Kegley were airlifted from the scene to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, where they later succumbed to their injuries

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Rush, Morgan and Valley volunteer fire departments, Scioto Squad 2 and Air Evac Lifeteam.
