WURTLAND, Ky. — The Greenup County Cruisers will host the Annual Old Car Cruise-In, Friday, July 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the McConnell House, 100 McConnell House Drive, Wurtland, Ky. There will be music on the porch featuring Roger Smith, Shannon and Bonnie Spears, and Keith Garvin.
Bud Matheny of the McConnell House, said the Annual Old Car Cruise-In serves as a good event for the community.
“We work with the Greenup County Cruisers, which I am a member also of the Greenup County Cruisers, and we get together to host this event which always a good time for the community,” Matheny said.
Al Louis, president of the Greenup County Cruisers, said they are expected at 300 cars participating in this year’s Annual Old Car Cruise-In.
“I am looking for a large show this year, although we did have a large show last year,” Louis said. “This year we may be looking at 300 cars or more. It is for a a good cause. The Cruisers are a non-profit club, and all of the money we receive we give to a family, or child with a life-threatening illness. We are just a bunch of hard workers trying to give something back.”
The child to benefit from this year’s Cruise-In event is Jordan Smith, of Flatwoods who has been diagnosed with lukemia, according to Louis.
“So, we just try to help the families out, and try to provide them with some funds to travel back and forth to the hospital,” Louis said.
There is no cost for spectators. Foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs, funnel cakes will refreshments will be available for purchase.
The McConnell House will be open for free tours to visitors. Preparation will also be underway, and entries will be taken for the McConnell House Cornhole Tournament where old car guys compete with local law enforcement in a tournament we have dubbed “A tournament of Cops & Rodders.”
