Construction Update

With a break in weather, and in some cases despite the rains, several major road construction projects are continuing in Fleming, Rowan, Carter and Boyd counties. Here’s what’s going on behind the barrels:

KY 11 FLEMINGSBURG BYPASS

Contractors are paving the bypass from the Maysville Road-KY 559 end back toward Elizaville Road near McDonald’s. Work, and one-lane traffic, will progress toward Elizaville Road on Friday with some paving continuing next week. Work is also taking place now near the KY 11 intersection. Watch for flaggers and please heed warning signs.

KY 32 MOREHEAD

Work to make KY 32’s shoulders wider north of Morehead – from the Park Hills area to the Fleming County line – is complete. Contractors are now working on drainage and ditch improvements alongside the highway, with full paving of all lanes expected to start in two to three weeks. Paving will require daily one-lane flagged traffic. Watch for only intermittent flagged traffic right now.

I-64 CARTER COUNTY

Construction is nearly complete on a “crossover” lane on I-64 in Carter County around the 150 mile marker. Traffic should be diverted beginning Friday to the crossovers, with westbound traffic and eastbound traffic sharing lanes on the other side of the interstate. Traffic will be two-way on the eastbound side for the next few months as slide repairs take place on the westbound side. Speed limit is 55 mph. Expect delays. Work is part of an $11 million repair and pavement rehab project that will continue into next year.

US 60 ASHLAND

Contractors worked through the rain installing concrete pavement at the US 60 and KY 716 intersection at Summit near Ashland this week. The intersection is closed until work is complete. Motorists may use KY 766 and local routes to detour. The work is part of a $3.4 million rebuild of several miles of the four-lane highway as it approaches downtown Ashland, which includes concrete intersections, new turn lanes and eliminating the raised median as well as new pavement across all lanes. Crews are aiming for a July 13 completion date.
