Local Author celebrated

SOUTH SHORE, Ky. — Linda H. Bryan is a mother of three — two daughters and a son — and ‘Mammaw’ to five granddaughters and one grandson, but she is also an author.

Bryan began writing inspirational and spiritual works in 2014. Since that time she has published 10 books.

“It’s not Linda writing the books, it’s truly a God thing. I’m just a vessel for him to use,” Bryan said.

Her works range from charismatic children’s books, to small ‘PowerBooks,” a short series on how to find the spiritual in the mundane and advice for dealing with the hardships life can throw your way.

“My latest children’s book Jojo the Churchhouse Mouse, tells about a little orphaned mouse who goes to live in the church. But the church doors close and he ends up homeless. During his time in church, he hears about a man named Jesus and decides to try and find him,” Bryan explained. “So it’s about his journey, it’s hilarious at times.”

Bryan, along with many other local authors, will be travelling to Greenup Kentucky to participate in the Second Annual Author Fair.

It will be held June 25 at the Greenup Public Library, located at 508 Main St. in Greenup Kentucky from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

“This is the second year we’ve done this event, the library has teamed up with the Kyowa writers to help put this on,” said Denise Greathouse, Branch Manager for the library.

The Author Fair features local writers and gives them an avenue to display their works to the community. Bryan will also be hosting a special sale on her books for those who come out to visit.

“There will be book signings, mini-work shops on editing, self publishing, finding your creative process and more. We’ll also be doing a library scavenger hunt, each author will have a clue and we’re giving away a Kindle Fire as the grand prize,” said Greathouse.

Workshops include:

  • Tighten up editing
  • Writing from a local perspective
  • Unleashing creativity
  • Self publishing
  • Getting started
  • Simple journaling

“I’m a home-town girl here in Kentucky, and I think it’d be great to have the support of our local people,” Bryan said.
