GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. — ‘Hooked On the Outdoors,’ a weekly segment about hunting and fishing in the tri-state with host and outdoor reporter, Tom Clay will debut Thursday, May 12, on 13 News WOWK.
Clay, who resides in Greenup County, Ky., is an award-winning freelance writer for Game and Fish Magazine, Cabela’s, Heartland USA, Kentucky Living, Southern Sporting Journal, North American Fishing Journal, and many more. Clay may also be heard on Outdoor Adventures Radio. He said he is elated about the debut of ‘Hooked On the Outdoors.’
“This is just a wonderful opportunity and the show is a lot of fun,” Clay said. “There are a lot of people around here in the tri-state area who fish and hunt, hike and like being outside. It is a great way to get people out to enjoy the great outdoors, and there is so much to learn if we take the time to experience the outdoors.”
Inspiring young people to be active outside is imperative, Clay said.
“If you take a kid these days, they have a computer in their hand, they don’t even have to go outside, he said. “They can go on Facebook, and tweet to talk to all of their friends, but I think that if you just get a young person interested in the outdoors or go camping, or do things such as that there are a lot more opportunities that the younger generation is missing. Most of us older people did things like go to Camp OYO, or participated in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. We have to get kids interested in the outdoors. Right now we have an over population of deer in the state of Kentucky and that can be a problem, so we have to get those next generation hunters out there and coming along.”
Viewing times for ‘Hooked On the Outdoors’ are Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 6 a.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m. as a special feature on 13 News WOWK.
