WURTLAND, Ky. — The McConnell House is partnering with the Greenup County Cruisers to host a cruise in fundraiser on Friday, July 24 from 5 until 9 p.m. The event has been dubbed, ‘Where History Meets the Road.’

Bud Matheny, president of the McConnell House, said a cruise in type of fundraising event seemed a viable option which came naturally to him.

“Recently when our finances reached a critical point, an old car cruise in was just a natural to me. I am also a member of another great nonprofit organization the Greenup County cruisers. They are joining us for this event,” he said.

He said maintaining the resources to operate the house is challenging task.

“I have been a car enthusiast for 30 years and have attended a lot of car shows and cruise ins. As the McConnell House has grown, so has our need for funding,” Matheny said. “We operate and maintain the house with only donations and fundraisers and an all volunteer Board of Directors. As you can imagine the maintenance and operating costs on a house built 27 years before the Civil War is a daunting task.”

According to Matherny, vehicles of all makes and models are welcome to join the cruise in. The entry fee is a $10 donation to the non-profit organizations sponsoring the event. A free event tee shirt will be given to the first 100 entries. The President’s Choice trophy will be given to the entry chosen by McConnell House President Bud Matheny and Greenup County Cruisers President Al Lewis.

They have scheduled a corn hole tournament where car club members will play local Law Enforcement. The corn hole tournament, billed as a tournament of ‘Cops and Rodder’ is still accepting teams. There is no entry fee for the teams and plaques will be given to the first place team.

The event will also include music, which will be play on the front porch of the McConnell House, as well as free tours of the house will be conducted. Matheny said the home which was built 27 years before the civil war has been restored and has never looked better. Food and beverages will be available.
