Rhonda Murray, of the office of Dr. Tracy Murray, says on Monday, July 13, that office will begin making appointments for the 8th annual Free Day of Dentistry — which will be held beginning at 8:30 a.m. on July 25 at his office located at 1010 Gallia St., in Portsmouth.

The event was created to help the growing number of uninsured and under-insured patients who have a difficult time affording dental treatment.

“You will start calling on Monday morning, July 13,” Murray said. “We’ll give them a schedule. We’ll put them on the schedule and they’ll pre-screen them, which means they’ll get a free x-ray and they’ll let the patient know what they need on that day.”

Anyone wanting to set up an appointment for the Free Day of Dentistry can call 740-354-3368.

“The reason we do that is everyone can call and make an appointment,” Murray said. “But we do like to pre-screen them. That way, before they come and stand in line we don’t have to take all the time and that means we can treat more people if they already have the pre-treatment done two weeks prior.”

Murray said the day will consist of services offered by two general dentists – Dr. Murray and Dr. Hal Jeter and Dr. Andrew Mullendore an oral surgeon and they will be performing fillings and extractions.

Over the seven years the Free Day of Dentistry has been held, the doctors have seen over 800 patients and have contributed over $250,000 worth of free services.

“Every year we learn something new that makes it better,” Murray said.
