DG grand opening held in South Shore, Ky.

SOUTH SHORE, Ky. – In their relentless effort to make shopping easier and more convenient for their customers, Dollar General (DG) held the grand opening of a new store at 28390 US Hwy 23 on Saturday, April 30.

DG had another smaller store located in the vicinity, which was closed and the new store opened to provide customers with the same value and convenience they have come to rely on, just in a different location. Long before 8 a.m., avid shoppers were lined up waiting to get inside of the new store.

Two enthusiastic Dollar General shoppers, Rosetta Justus and Francis Dalton traveled from Portsmouth and arrived at 6:30 a.m. in an attempt to be the first customers to walk through the door.

Justus, said their goal was to obtain freebies at the grand opening.

“We have been here since 6:30 a.m. We wanted to be here for the freebies. We heard that they were going give out gift cards to the first 50 customers,” Justus said with a smile on her face.

Dalton said she was not disappointed as she walked around the store.

“Everything is really nice. I like the fact that their is so much room, and a lot more items to choose from,” Dalton said.

Dollar General kept their promise, as the first 50 adult customers did receive a $10 DG gift card, and the first 200 shoppers, a DG tote bag, full of useful items at the grand opening event. Shoppers were also given cupcakes and soda pop as they exited the building.

Dan Nieser, senior vice president of real estate and store development of DG, said endeavors to enhance the shopping experience of their customers.

“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” Nieser said. “We hope our South Shore customers will continue to enjoy shopping at Dollar General’s new location.”

The new location features a fresh layout, designed to make shopping easier and simpler for customers. Some of the store’s new features include seasonal products featured in the center of the store, easily recognizable departments with visible signage and coolers that are more conveniently located at the front of the store, according to DG.

Stephanie Roe, store manager at the new DG store, their goal was to provide more space to their customers.

“We wanted to give the community a bigger space, and more opportunity to shop and have more business,” Roe said. “We are confident that the new location will be a delightful experience for all of our customers.

The new store will continue to provide customers with the same value and convenience they have come to rely on, just in a different location.

The location hours of operation for the DG location is 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday through Saturday.
