In efforts to provide quality performing arts, the Southern Ohio Museum will be hosting the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory’s Classical Guitar Ensemble to kick-off the newly expanded Classical Music Series.

The ensemble will perform Sunday April 3, in the Museum’s Hopkins Family Theater at 2:30.

Touring twice a year, the CCM Classical Guitar Ensemble performs at colleges, secondary schools, and concert series throughout the Midwest region. These performances show case the instrument and its repertoire.

“We’re really excited to have the Classical Guitar Ensemble here, this area has a lot of guitarists. Typically when people think of guitar they think bluegrass, jazz or rock and roll, sometimes the classical side gets left out of it. I think it’s an exceptional side of the instrument that needs to be showcased,” said TR Beery, the Music and Performing Arts Educator for the Southern Ohio Museum.

Thanks to generous donations from Bard and Janice Suverkrop and the Scioto Foundation, the Classical Music Series offers professional performances of masterpieces in an intimate setting, as intended.

“Traditionally chamber music was composed for a smaller space, you want to be close to the instrument to hear all the nuances and hear what’s going on, that’s what we’re trying to facilitate with these concerts,” said Beery.

CCM graduates have gone on the be performers, teachers, transcribers and competition winners, directors of guitar programs, editors and active members in the professional music community.

Classical events are open to the public. General admission tickets are $6, and $4 for students, seniors and members the day of the concert.

Future concerts in the series will feature the Sassmannshaus Piano Trio on May 1, Mark Valenti will be performing all American piano compositions on September 11 and Stanley Workman Jr. performing Schubert’s Der Winterreise in November.
