Veterans are honored all across the county and Porter Township like so many others has a display of veteran memorial bricks along with a memorial with the names of veterans in the Porter Township Park.
Speaking with Rick Wesney, one of just a couple of veterans that are still living that belong to the Porter Township Memorial Association and were able to be involved in originally setting the memorial up more than 20 years ago, he wanted to make sure that the people in Scioto County and surrounding areas had an opportunity to have a veteran that they know and love put into the display. The Memorial and the brick path are located in the Porter Township Park beside the Wheelersburg pool.
Porter Township Veteran’s Memorial Association wishes to remind veterans that adding names and recognition bricks to the Memorial is an ongoing process. However, if you want them on display for this Memorial Day 2021, requests must be made now, in order for them to get them placed by then. For information and/or applications, please call Rick Wesney at 740-574- 8057.
Wesney stated that right now they have approximately 300 or more bricks, which can be added to at any time along with the veteran’s name on the Memorial, but it does take time to have the engraver engrave and also for the bricks to be made and then placed. Wesney said that the association started about 20 years ago, but most of them have since passed away now. He said that any veteran with any connection to Scioto County can have their name put on the wall and can purchase a brick for the veteran.
