WURTLAND, Ky. — Helping Hands of Greenup County, Ky. will host ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ Auction on Friday, Feb. 19, at the Greenup County Extension Office in Wurtland, Ky. The dinner will convene from 5 p.m. to approximately 6:45 p.m. and the auction from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Cindi Evans, of Helping Hands, said the auction and dinner is a fundraising effort in which all of the proceeds will go towards providing resources to people in need. The auctioneer for the event will be Don Gleim.
“We are going to be auctioning more than 100 different items on February 19th, and it will be at the Greenup County Extension Office in Wurtland,” said. “We help people with food and utilities, so we are just trying to raise as much money as we can to help to fund food and clothing for the community.”
Evans also said the auction will also serve as a wonderful time for people to come together, enjoy good food, and help someone in the process.
Helping Hands started as a ministry of Faith Christian Assembly. It began in a garage and served families with canned goods and clothing. In 1996, Helping Hands became a non-profit organization that focused on meeting the needs of those in Greenup County, according to the organization’s website. As the ministry grew there was a need for larger accommodations. Helping Hands moved to their current location in 1998. Blevins became the Director in 2011 and brings with her the skills necessary to grow the organization to meet more needs and to strengthen Helping Hands’ relation with the community.
