Portsmouth Connex recently held its annual membership meeting.

Over the course of the meeting, those in attendance about the progress made on making the proposed routes a reality.

Those at the meeting were also informed that 19 bike racks have been purchased and will be installed in the city of Portsmouth in the spring.

Wendi Waugh, Connex Spokeswoman said the majority of the bike racks will be installed in the areas of Front Street, Second Street and Roy Rogers Esplanade.

Connex, Main Street Portsmouth, Scioto Foundation and the Scioto County Health Coalition collaborated in 2015 to develop an activity and tourism map.

The group has a plan to make the map more accessible to the community.

Connex again partnered with the Scioto County Health Coalition to install an ‘I choose to be Active’ billboard. The billboard is designed to promote an active lifestyle and is located at the Offnere Street railroad overpass in Portsmouth.

“In 2015 there were two competitive cycling events in Portsmouth, Run for Your Life and Paint it Pink Races. The Portsmouth Rotary held the first Autumn Bicycle Tour and we had many, many weekly rides throughout town,” Waugh said.

The weekly rides were coordinated by Bill Kirby and are anticipated to be continued into 2016.

Waugh said the competitive cycling events are also anticipated to occur again in 2016. In addition to the autumn tour there will be a summer tour.

She said at the meeting, there were five Connex Board positions open, with three current board members up for reelection. Gina, Chabot, Esther Downey and Waugh were elected to two year terms. Derek Allen and Bill Kirby were elected to fill open positions on the board.

Barb Bradbury was reelected as President of the board, Waugh was elected Vice President, and Other Connex Board Members include, Jeff Smith, Steve Rodenheffer and Mel Collins.

Waugh said Connex will be participating in the Southern Ohio Senior Games in September on several dates.
