Scioto County prepares for COVID-19

As concern about the Coronavirus increases please follow the Portsmouth City Health Department and Scioto County Health Department on Facebook for updates. Information will also be given to local newspapers and radio. As the Covid-19 situation evolves local health department leadership is working with community partners to get plans of action in place for the possibility of Covid-19 cases in Scioto County.

This morning a meeting of community leadership was held at the Scioto County Emergency Operations Center n<ith representation from fire, EMS, public health, SOMC, KDMC, SSU, County Prosecutor’s office, and County Commissioners to discuss planning and protocols for how to handle COVID-19 cases in Scioto County were the outbreak in the US to spread locally to Scioto County.

Multiple states have now reported community transmission of COVID-19, at this time no confirmed cases of COVlD-19 have been reported in the state of Ohio.

PCHD and SCHD are working with community partners to ensure everyone is prepared and knows their responsibilities, stays informed, and passes information to healthcare providers and the public.

Flu season is still underway and the same precautions used for flu can be applied to the COVID-19 virus. This includes handwashing, covering your mouth when you cough and staying home if you .are ill.
