In case you haven’t noticed, one of the area’s best known veterinarian practices has moved and greatly expanded their services.
Wheelersburg Animal Hospital is now located at 9103 Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg, and they have invited the public to a Holiday Open House, Jan. 2, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The owner of Wheelersburg Animal Hospital, Dr. Aaron Myers DVM, said he purchased the practice from Dr. Donald Collins in 1999. The practice began in 1978.
In the new facility, the staff has 8,200 square feet with which to work and Wheelersburg Animal Hospital offers a wide range of pet services including routine vaccinations, heartworm prevention and heartworm testing, in-house diagnostics which includes lab work, digital radiography, ultra-sound, surgeries, and orthopedics.
“Doing orthopedics is good because you don’t have to refer them to MedVet because we can do the surgeries here,” Reva Ford, Practice Manager, said.
Currently on the back-burner are plans to eventually do boarding and grooming.
In addition to Myers, Dr. Leslie R. Martin DVM and Dr. Lindsay May, DVM are also on staff. Dr. Bill Harnetty DVM, also treats patients on a part time basis.
“While we do have room for that, that is just something we haven’t really sat down and tried to establish some kind of timeline,” Myers said. “It’s in the future, but maybe not in the immediate future.”

Ford said the website gives pet owners direct involvement in the health of their pets.
“You can see vaccine,” Ford said. “Their medications, you can see that. You can upload pictures, request appointments. We also have a newsletter that goes out every quarter.”
Monday and Wednesday Wheelersburg Animal Hospital is open 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and closed on Sunday.
“We have an emergency number for after hours,” Ford said. “We share with Scioto Trail (Animal Clinic). We’re on call Monday and Wednesday, and they do it Tuesday and Thursday. We do every other weekend as well. After 11:30 p.m. everything goes to the E.R. in Kenova (West Virginia).”
Ford said, in the spirit of the holidays and giving, they are also taking the opportunity to support a local food pantry.
“If you would like to add canned foods or a box of cereal to the donation, we will be making, please feel free to drop it off any time before Jan. 3 or bring it to the open house,” Ford said. “One of the advantages to our new location is the abundant parking.”
During the open house visitors will be able to meet the doctors and staff as well as tour the new hospital.
