Portsmouth City Council held a meeting on Monday evening and moved forward with several pieces of legislation.
An ordinance amending section 175.07 (c) of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Portsmouth, Ohio-Licensing; Insurance was passed for a third reading, while a resolution authorizing the City Manager to apply for and follow the grant guidelines for a Safe Routes School Grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation was adopted.
Council also voted to pass ordinances on for a second reading authorizing the acceptance of grant funds from the Ohio Department of Public Safety Office of Criminal Justice Services under the JAG program for Drug Task Force and Police Department equipment purchases, submitting a proposed tax levy for flood defense to electors of the City of Portsmouth, and authorizing the appropriation of $12,000 from Capital Improve Fund No. 301 to be paid for building improvements to the Police Department Firing Range.
In statements of remarks from citizens present in council chambers, a group of citizens asked the council to consider once again donating to the annual community reunion which takes place every three years.
During his Mayor’s report, Kevin E. Johnson asked the council to add a discussion on allowing archery within the city and potential donations to the next City Manager’s conference agenda, along with a request that council receives their informational meeting packets earlier in order to be more prepared for meetings in the future.
The next Portsmouth City Council Meeting will be held March 9 at 6 p.m.
