Main Street Portsmouth will be holding its annual fundraising dinner and auction, Celebrate Portsmouth, on Thursday, March 5, at 6 p.m., at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Friends Center.

“We’re excited for an evening of friends and neighbors, celebrating downtown success over drinks and an update from Main Street staff and board members,” Executive Director Joseph Pratt said.

Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and will feature chicken, ribs, green beans, potatoes, coleslaw, and bread from the Scioto Ribber. Admission also includes an open bar and cake from Union Mills Confectionery. Music will be performed live by Mr. Andy Russell.

Throughout the evening, guests are invited to browse the silent auction and bid on items. The event is one of Main Street’s larger fundraisers and goes a long way in ensuring the continuation of programming, events, grants and so on. The fundraiser is one of the reasons they are able to offer so many downtown events free of charge to the public.

“We will be giving updates on our downtown placemaking project at our property at 535 Second Street, discussing our $43,000 fundraising campaign that produced the Tracy Park Christmas display, talking about other grants and programs, and going over our $30,000+ beautification Fund and 60+ events,” Pratt said.

Pratt will speak on the success of 2019 and the plans for 2020 before awarding the Annual Ellen Vetter Memorial Service Award to a volunteer. Additionally, Senator Terry Johnson will be present, speaking on the importance of downtown and the growth in Portsmouth.

Admission is $50. Businesses are also welcome to purchase a special table sponsorship for $500. Tickets are at the Scioto County Welcome Center. They encourage tickets ahead of time, because door tickets are very limited, if at all available.

The group is also taking donations for their silent auction, which plays a large role in raising funds.

Current table sponsors are the City of Portsmouth, Scioto County Commissioners, OSCO, Southern Ohio Medical Center, Neal Hatcher Real Estate, Glockner Family of Dealerships, Sherman-Kricker Insurance/ Berndt & Murfin Insurance Agency, Hunter Williams Insurance, Eagle Loan, Edward Jones of Portsmouth, Desco FCU, Euton Realty, WesBanco, US Bank, BesTitle, Tri-State Building Trades Unions, Shawnee State University and Dr. DiTraglia. Main Street is still accepting table sponsors.
