The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Flood Warning for The Ohio River at Portsmouth.
From late Thursday night to Sunday afternoon the flood warning will be in effect as the river is expected to rise. At 2 p.m. Wednesday the stage was at 46.0 feet.
According to the National Weather Service flood stage is 50 feet.
Minor flooding is forecasted. The river will rise above flood stage late Thursday evening and continue to rise to near 51.2 feet by Friday evening. The river will fall below flood stage by Sunday morning.
At stages near 51.0 feet, low-lying flooding occurs along the southern border of Scioto County, as well as in South Portsmouth. Routes 73 and 239 are closed near the Ohio River. Much of Portsmouth itself is protected by floodwalls.
