FOP receives grant

Staff Report

The Scioto Foundation Board of Governors announced on Tuesday that it has awarded the Friends of Portsmouth $7,500 to go towards the purchase of a community ice rink to use during the organization’s annual Winterfest celebration.

The Scioto Foundation stated that the purchase of an ice rink will allow the Friends of Portsmouth (FOP) to continue offering “Boost Your Kids Program” which allows economically disadvantaged kids to be able to skate for free during Winterfest. The mission of the BYKP program is to provide opportunities for Scioto County children who would not otherwise be able to participate in programs and activities that are designed to inspire hope in the community’s revitalization. The Scioto Foundation’s grant money will allow select local youths to take part in the community-driven celebration, without worrying about fees for participating.

Those looking to contribute to Friends of Portsmouth’s “Boost Your Kids Program” can do so by contacting the organization for more details.
