On two separate occasions last year the city of Portsmouth experienced a rash of car break-ins. Overnight, windshields were broken, and items left in those vehicles were stolen. Thursday, residents in the West Portsmouth area experienced the same thing.
Some 10 cases of everything from breaking and entering to criminal damaging/endangering to theft were reported to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office
Two cases were reported on Main Street, two on Fourth Street, two on Calverts Lane, and one each on Pershing Avenue, Ohio 73 and Ohio 104, Fifth Street and Center Street.
Captain David Hall of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office says there are things people can do to try to minimize break-ins of their vehicles.
“Lock your doors,” Hall said. “Don’t leave anything laying inside including coins, electronics, the cords for electronics, the plastic GPS holders which indicate they’ve got a GPS in the vehicle, purses, book bags, anything of value.”
Hall said thieves are not fooled by items hidden under things like coats and blankets.
