‘Alive & Kicking’ is the name of a group of senior residents age 55 and up that wants everyone to know that not only are they still around, but are going vibrant and active. Alive & Kicking Senior Group endeavors to raise funds in order to offer activities and projects for the local community.

The senior group formed January of 2015, recently met for their regular monthly meeting, which is held on the second Thursday of each month at the 14th Street Center in Portsmouth at 1 p.m.

Bill Netter, current president of Alive & Kicking. said they are elated about the group’s upcoming activities, and extends an invitation to all age 55 or older.

“We are extremely excited about our group. We presently have about 15 members, and it is open to everyone who fits into the age group of 55 or older,” Netter said. “This isn’t about black, or white, this is about us coming together to do some nice, interesting activities together within the community, and to enjoy one another’s company.”

Two immediate projects include a community Christmas party next month, and a chartered bus trip to Lexington, Ky., to attend our community’s very own; Kathleen Battle in concert April 16, 2016.

“Our next activity that we are working on is trying to raise money to see Kathleen Battle, the renown opera singer that is right here from the city of Portsmouth, Ohio,” he said. “Our fund raiser for this will be going from Monday, Nov. 16 until Friday the 21st. For everyone that gets a flyer with our name, Alive & Kicking and goes to either the Portsmouth or New Boston Bob Evans Restaurants.

According to David Malone, who is also a member of AK, the cost in undertaking these two events is very expensive, and the seniors are in need of assistance in helping the group raise the necessary funds for these projects. Succinctly, they are asking supporters to plan at least two meals during the week at any of the two local Bob Evans Restaurants, so that donations made be made on their behalf.

To obtain an Alive & Kicking Bob Evans Restaurant fundraiser flyer, stop in at the 14Th Street Community Center, 1222 14th St. in Portsmouth, or call 740-353-7308. Money donations may be mailed to: Alive & Kicking Senior Group P.O . Box 115, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
