Again this year, Santa Claus and a few of his friends will go to houses and deliver gifts, thanks to some fundraising efforts and New Boston police and administration officials.

Jessica Grant in the New Boston mayor’s office said the New Boston Police Department and mayor’s office is now taking applications for children who attend New Boston schools to receive gifts on Dec. 21.

“If the child goes to the New Boston schools, even if they live out of New Boston, we will take them as long as their child goes to a New Boston school,” Grant said.

Grant said the deadline to apply for gifts is Nov. 15, 2015.

“We will be delivering on Dec. 21, starting at 9 (a.m.) o’clock,” Grant said. “We’ll have Santa and hopefully a couple of other little characters.” She said when someone comes in to fill out an application in either the police department or mayor’s office, the application will ask what the child would like to receive, and they attempt to get the gifts the child would want to receive.

“If they need coats, scarves, gloves, we try to provide that as well,” Grant said.

Grant said the dispatchers are currently working on food baskets which they hope to provide at the same time.

Grant said letters are sent to local businesses for donations to finance the gifts and the bikers of the area solicit money twice – on Black Friday and on the following weekend.

“They (bikers) will stand out in the street here in New Boston and they will solicit money,” Grant said. “I believe they do that in Portsmouth and Wheelersburg also and then put all the money together.”
