On Monday the Scioto County Health Coalition announced the first menu items under its healthy plate initiative. The initiative is designed to help residents recognize healthy meal options at local restaurants.

The first menu items to be covered under the initiative come from Market Street Cafe, with their Raspberry Romain Salad and their Veggie Special Panini. According to Regina Tipton, Scioto County Health Coalition Coordinator, these menu items will soon sport the healthy plate initiative logo.

“The Healthy Plate initiative is calling on restaurants in Scioto County to nominate dishes on their menus to determine if they qualify as a healthier option,” Tipton said.

She said once a dish is nominated it will be reviewed by members of the coalition. If chosen, stickers can be placed by the item indicating it a healthy option, endorsed by the coalition.

Area restaurants that have healthy food options approved by the coalition will be used in coalition promotional material.

The mission of the Scioto County Health Coalition is to improve the Scioto County health rankings and overall health of the citizens of Scioto County. For more information about the Scioto County Health Coalition and the programs offered call Tipton at 740-206-7170 or visit www.sciotohealth.org.
