Around 500 pieces of art created by Appalachian artist will be on display at the 34th Annual Foothills Art Festival this year, some of which are local submissions.

Not only will guests be able to take in all the color and beauty of the artwork, but also the changing weather, since the event will be surrounded by beautiful outdoor scenery at Canter’s Caves 4-H Camp, about five miles from Jackson.

Art in a plethora of mediums will be showcased, including oil/acrylic, pastel/drawing, traditional photography, enhanced photography, three dimensional work, and watercolor.

Local award-winning photographer Pam DeCamp has been a member of the Foothills exhibition for seven years and looks forward to visiting this year. She said she was also interested in looking at what other work is for sale.

“The Foothills is a showcase of a variety of high quality regional artwork. There is something for every interest, from paintings and photography to sculpture and woodworking. The Foothills provides patrons the opportunity to purchase high quality, original artwork for their home or office,” DeCamp explained. “When I was dropping off my work Sunday, there was a guy dropping off wood inlaid bowls and his prices were very reasonable. His largest piece was $65. I may have to purchase one of them. I saw some nice items being dropped off Sunday.”

There will also be events and games for students to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 2 p.m. Students from Jackson schools will be working with younger kids to explore a variety of media. The students will then be able to take their masterpieces home to display on their fridge or bookshelf.

Carter’s Caves is supportive of the event and will be supplying concessions. Visitors are also encouraged to visit the Sons of Liberty’s pre-Revolutionary War encampment in the lower meadow on the property.

The event is open to the public and will open doors Friday, October 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 18 from noon to 5 p.m. Admission and parking is free.

Foothills is organized by Southern Hills Arts Council, which is responsible for many Jackson artistic endeavors.
