The condition of a 10-year-old Minford girl shot in the stomach Thursday night had been upgraded to stable as of Friday afternoon, according to Scioto County Sheriff’s Department Capt. John W. Murphy.
The victim had been listed as critical but stable shortly following the incident.
Sheriff’s deputies, along with the Minford Fire Department and EMS, responded to a residence on Warren Hill Road after reports of a shooting. Deputies and detectives discovered the 10-year-old sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, and was airlifted to Cabell County Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
Murphy said there were no arrests in the incident, and none are pending.
“It was a freak accident,” he said, though he offered no details. Due to her age, the victim’s name was not released.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call sheriff’s Det. Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091. All calls will remain anonymous.
