Volunteers needed for honoring veterans

Volunteers are being enlisted to help the Scioto County Memorial Day Association with its annual task of placing flags on the graves of veterans throughout Scioto County.

Association members start with Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth, where more than 3,500 veterans are buried, and help is needed to ensure no graves are missed and that all veterans receive the honor they so richly deserve. It is a task, although daunting, that could not be completed without the help in previous years of volunteers.

Flags will be placed on the graves Friday and/or Saturday.

On those two days, the flagging chairperson will be at the garage at the north end of the cemetery at 9 a.m. Those who wish to help honor our veterans by donating their time should arrive at 9 a.m. to receive directions and lists of names for placement of flags.
