Shawnee State University (SSU) is welcoming fall with a craft fair, which is to be held later this month, with deadline for applicants quickly approaching.

The SSU Fall Craft Fair is the first of what the school hopes to be an annual event, where students and community members can visit, shop, and learn what local crafters and vendors offer.

“We are hosting the craft fair to get people checking things out on campus and to get involved in student life,” Campus Scheduling Specialist Lacey Sowkulech said.

Sowkulech says that there are many vendors already registered or showing interest, from Origami Owl to Scentsy. She also says there are many crafters excited to show the products made with their very hands.

Some of the registered participants are SSU students. Sowkulech says that she has encouraged any student to get involved in the community in whatever way they’d like and the craft fair is just another opportunity to do so.

“We do have college students getting involved and setting up booths,” Sowkulech said. “One has coffee flavoring syrups, scones, and other coffee treats. Another student has teeth whitening strips that she is selling for the dental hygiene program. We encourage any student wanting to get involved in the community to join in the event, because it is a good opportunity for that.”

SSU will be welcoming registrations at regular price until October 9. They will still accept registrations afterward, but the participants will be charged an additional late fee.

Vendors interested in setting up a table may contact Debbie Schwamberger at the Event and Conference Services Office at 740-351-3390.

A 20×20 space, with two tables, is available for $20. A 10×20 space, with twice the tables, is available for $40. A third space is available for $50. The late fee for a space is $10 extra.

The craft fair will be held October 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sodexo Ballroom at the Shawnee State University Center.

“We are just hoping for a good crowd of people on campus,” Sowkulech said. “Yes, this is in the fall, but Christmas isn’t that far off, so we could see some of those themed things, this would also be a good time to get unique Christmas shopping out of the way, or a time to just see what local vendors are into.”
