If you’ve been watching the Ohio River and it looks fuller than usual, you’re not imagining things.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a flood advisory for Portsmouth through tonight, but there’s very little threat that the river will leave its banks today.
Wednesday night, the river was at 48 feet, but is expected to crest near 49 feet by 8 p.m. today. Flood stage is 50 feet.
The river is expected to begin receding after midnight.
At stages near 49.0 feet, lowland flooding increasingly affects southern Scioto County and southern Adams County. Backwater flooding begins into the Scioto River, as well as along smaller creeks and streams flowing into the Ohio River.
