With the Christmas holiday season right around the corner, the Greenup County Extension Office (GCEO) will offer a Christmas Budgeting series Oct. 8, 22, 29, and Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. at the Extension Office in Wurtland, Ky.

Morgan King, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) Program Assistant of the GCEO, said the classes will offer hands on activities that will help shoppers to shop sensibly during the Christmas season.

“We are going to kind of look at people’s budgets, and give them ideas on how to make gifts at home, rather than spending a bunch of money,” King said. “We’re going to have a couple of classes where they’re going to actually make gifts hands on, and then we’ll be teaching them that they don’t have to spend excessive amounts of money on Christmas gifts.”

The classes will provide participants with shopping strategies that are aligned with their budgets.

“We will teach how you don’t have to go and buy all of your gifts at one time, but can look for sales, as well as budgeting for food, and that they prioritize their needs over gifts,”she said.

The series includes also includes gifts from the kitchen, holiday menu ideas, food sampling and door prizes.

Those interested in attending the Christmas Budgeting class series are asked to contact the GCEO at 606-836-0201 to reserve a space, which is limited.
