Ever since the 2016 Dancing With Our Stars (DWOS) “star dancers’ were announced, the stars have been planning fundraising events to aid in their efforts to win the mirror ball trophy.

Every dollar raised by an individual dancer equals one vote and the person with the most votes is awarded the DWOS Fundraising Mirror Ball Trophy following the show scheduled for March 19, 2016 at the Friend’s Community Center.

Singer/Song Writer Rick Ferrell is among community members who compete both on the dance floor and off the dance floor by raising money for the local Red Cross. Ferrell has scheduled a golf scramble on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Shawnee State Golf Course in Stout, Ohio. The four person scramble will begin with registration, lunch and drinks at noon. The scramble will have a shotgun start at 1 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

“I’m looking forward to returning to Portsmouth to dance for the Red Cross in March and wanted to host a golf tournament to raise funds for the Red Cross in my quest to win the Mirror Ball Trophy,” Ferrell said in a released statement. “We are offering a day filled with fun and great golf for men and women as well as the novice or experienced player. I hope to see a lot of my friends and fans entering this event and joining me as we swing for the Red Cross.”

The event will be held rain or shine with a registration of $240 for a four-man team. There will be an opportunity to take photos with Rick Ferrell, along with raffle tickets for door prizes.

“We are thrilled with Rick’s involvement and enthusiasm to help us raise funds to support the critical services of compassionate care which the Red Cross provides to our community each day. Participants are given the opportunity to support Rick and be actively involved in providing relief to victims of disasters and helping the community prepare for and respond to emergencies,” said Debbie Smith, community executive director in a released statement.

Dancers joining Ferrell in the dance competition include: Tim Wells co-owner of Shawnee Animal Clinic; Ryan Hall, Assistant Vice President WesBanco in Jackson; Chris Keeton, APRN with KDMC Ohio; local Realtor Nick Rutman,; Dr. Jessica Suber of SOMC; Ashley Schwamberger, firefighter with the Portsmouth Fire Department; and local dentists Dr. Amy Heim and Dr. Teresa Martin.
