The first of many Christmas celebrations in Portsmouth will be held on Thursday, November 30th at the Scioto County Courthouse.
“We are so excited to bring this event to the community,” said Bryan Davis, Chairman of the County Scioto County Commissioners. “Christmas is a special time of year for our area. We want to invite everyone down to enjoy the lighting at the courthouse. There will be music from the West Portsmouth Choir and refreshments.”
This grand lighting will take place in the courthouse lobby, with the County Commissioners in attendance, and is open to the public. The Commissioners welcome everyone in the community to come out for the event on Thursday evening and partake in the festivities. In addition to the lighting itself, there will be several speakers prior to the ceremony.
“This year we wanted to do something special. We want this to become a tradition, the community gathering together and celebrating the Christmas season. We’ve gotten brand new lights for the tree, and will be collecting canned goods to donate to the Scioto county homeless shelter. We wanted to do something that brings you back to yester year and to old traditions to bring everyone together and spread blessings to all,” said Cathy Coleman, Scioto County Commissioner.
Please join the Commissioners at the Courthouse on Thursday, Nov. 30th at 4:30 p.m. to kick off the holiday season. Donations of canned food, and non-perishable food items are welcomed and will be collected during the event to be donated to the local homeless shelter.
