Miles Ferguson, of Buckeye Elite Event Management is proud to say that the Buckeye Elite Showcase will return Portsmouth Dec. 7-9 at Portsmouth High School.
Ferguson first started the tournament in 2014 by looking at the top 10 to 20 high school basketball teams around the nation and contacting them, asking them to come play Scioto County kids. The response was overwhelming. There were several teams interested in playing in the area. Ferguson explained that he was advised to establish the tournament in a bigger city for the start, so the basketball event was held in Huntington, West Virginia. The tournament not only created a new event for local kids to take part in and attend, but also allowed local athletes the opportunity to play bigger schools with bigger talent.
Once the tournament had been established, Ferguson felt it was time to move the event to Portsmouth where it was always envisioned. He did that in 2015, a move that has also helped Buckeye Elite to be able to involve more local teams.
Ferguson, who partners with friend Dustin Pendleton, was at Monday night’s City Council meeting, where he announced this year’s tournament and invited the community to come out and get involved. He added that this year, teams not only will be coming from around the nation, but will also be coming down from Canada.
The tournament will take place over three days on the evenings of Thursday and Friday, Dec. 7 and 8, and all day Saturday, Dec. 9 at Portsmouth High School. Tickets will be available the day of games at the gate.
