Clay Twp Passes 3 Levies

Clay Township’s proposed tax levy for the purpose of fire protection passed on Tuesday with 449 votes FOR, and 411 AGAINST.

The levy called for a replacement of a tax for the benefit of Clay Township serving the purpose of fire protection at a rate not exceeding 1.25 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounted to $0.125 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for five years commencing in 2017, first due in calendar year 2018.

A second proposed tax levy for Clay Township for the purpose of police protection passed on Tuesday with 511 votes FOR, and 466 votes AGAINST.

The levy called for a replacement of 3.5 mills and an increase of 0.1 mills to constitute a tax for the benefit of Clay Township for the purpose of police protection: motor vehicle, communications, and payment of salaries or equipment used directly in the operation of the police department, ambulance/emergency medical services by a police department at a rate not exceeding 3.6 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.36 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for 3 years, commencing in 2017, first due in calendar year 2018.

A third proposed tax levy calling for the replacement of a tax for the benefit of Clay Township for the purpose of providing for construction, paving and repaving of roads and bridges at a rate not exceeding 1.5 mills for each one dollar in valuation passed on Tuesday with 613 votes FOR, and 371 votes AGAINST. The levy called for a replacement of a tax for the benefit of Clay Township for the purpose of providing for construction, paving and repaving of roads and bridges at a rate not exceeding 1.5 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.15 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for 5 years, commencing in 2017, first due in calendar year 2018.
