Life Point Church of Portsmouth held their Third Annual Laundry Love Day Saturday. Life Point volunteers took over Plummer’s Corner Laundromat and offered free laundry services, alongside haircuts and free kids activities like face painting and inflatables. Life Point also provided free food, and gave out packs of socks and underwear to those who needed them, which were donated by Church Members.
“Once a year we take over the laundromat by oasis and offer a lot of different things, like haircuts, kid’s activities, and inflatables,” Said Melanie Porter, Life Point Church member and volunteer.
“ Not only do we pay for the laundry, we’ll sort, separate, wash and dry any laundry brought to us and fold and bag it to return to the owner. Each person gets a ticket when they drop off their clothes and when their laundry is finished we call out there number and give them their bag. We don’t ask for anything in return, we don’t preach at anybody, if someone wants to talk about God we’ll gladly talk or pray with them, but we don’t force anything onto them. There’s no gimmick to this.”
Laundry Love Day is part of Life Point’s Serve Day projects.
“Laundry Love Day is my personal favorite event we do at Life Point. It’s a lot of fun to hang out and get to know people of the community,” said Porter.
The day brought together 125 Life Point Volunteers at both Plummer’s Corner and Splash and Go Laundromats. Approximately 167 loads of laundry were done on behalf of the community by the volunteers.
“By doing other people’s laundry we’re trying to show them love, friendship, and respect. It’s something we like to do to show God’s love and the humbleness he’s shown to us to go out and serve others.”
