The 2017 River Days Parade, the largest daytime parade in the state of Ohio, was held on Saturday in downtown Portsmouth and was sponsored by Ricer Equipment. The parade began at Spartan Stadium at 11 a.m. and ended at Tracey Park and was lead by Portsmouth Police. This year’s parade featured fairytale inspired floats from the River Days contestants ranging from “Alice in Wonderland” to “Rapunzel” and appearances by Miss Ohio and Miss Shawnee. Floats from the Jackson Ohio Apple Festival and Beaver Ohio Oktoberfest, alongside Scioto County high school bands were also featured in the parade. Local businesses like Compass Community Health Care and Ricer equipment also appeared in the parade.
Although the forecast called for rain Saturday morning, the city streets were lined with people eager to see this year’s parade.
“We love going to the parade every year and this year was no different,” said parade spectator and former River Days Contestant Kalyn Mitchell. “The weather did not keep us from enjoying the lovely floats. We really liked the fairytale theme this year!”
