Second Presbyterian Church Women’s Association again invites the community to an afternoon of fun at its annual old-fashioned ice cream social from 4 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept 10.
A $5 ticket per individual will buy a hot dog with sauce and all the trimmings, potato chips, ice cream, cake and lemonade or water. The event will feature cake walks, activities for children, a Chinese auction and an “ice cream – themed” raffle basket.
The special attraction will be a high-stakes auction of unique baked goods and other favorite recipes from church members. Items to be auctioned include such delicacies as a Greenbrier pound cake, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, orange marmalade cake, home-maid cinnamon rolls, peanut butter fudge, Harold Mickletwaites’s coconut cream balls, Heath Bar cake, prize-winning pies, homemade pimento cheese, home-made ice cream and other favorite recipes.
The auction promises to a lively, entertaining and competitive process which has always yielded excellent proceeds, according to the Women’s Association Council.
Proceeds from the ice cream social will be used to help defray expenses of major music presentations like Second Presbyterian Church’s annual Festival of Lessons & Carols held each December as a special community event.
Tickets and information may be obtained by stopping in the church office on Waller Street during regular office hours, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or contacting the office at 353-4159.
