Jean Staker Thornton
Wheelersburg – Thelma Jean Plummer Staker Thornton, age 93, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017. A lifelong resident of Wheelersburg, she was born October 12, 1923 to the late James Laurence Plummer and Lucy Adams Plummer Blair.
Jean was a 1941 graduate of Wheelersburg High School and a longstanding member of St. John Lutheran Church. She retired after 35 years as a cashier at local grocery stores.
She was married to Arnold Staker in 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1972.
Jean is survived by her only child, Rebecca Williams of Portsmouth; grandchildren Melissa DeVaul and Nick Williams; and great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were sisters Kathleen Huffman Walden, Wilma Holbrook; stepsisters Muriel Darby and Garnet Darby; and stepfather Crate Blair. Jean was also the widow of Riley Thornton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Carl Beck officiating and interment in St. John Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth.
