Young people giving to their local community is something not seen everyday.
“The Young Spirits,” a community dance team, and “Time Out for Me ” teens eagerly interacted with the residents at Heritage Square with song, dance, and encouraging remarks this past Sunday, July 16, 2017. The residents of Heritage Square totally enjoy having these young people come perform for them and then interact with the residents. They were excited and exchanged positive comments and embraces. The group does this in a rotation schedule throughout some of the community nursing homes. “The Young Spirits” dance group joins the “Time Out for Me” group to help them give the residents comfort, joy, and entertainment.
Founded in 2009, “Time Out For Me” Inc. is dedicated to positively impacting our youth through enhancing their self-esteem, self-confidence, and effective communication skills through individual and group sessions, as well as exposure to educational and cultural events to increase their awareness of future career opportunities, adding value to the youth, family, and community.
“The mission of our group is to remind our senior and disabled community members of their value in the community,” said Marcia Harris MA, Program Director, for “Time Out for Me” Inc.
The success of this program is due to the support of Scioto Foundation, who supports our community youth, they do this through a grant, because the group is a non-profit organization that serves the community.
Nothing is better than seeing young people reach and do things for others, especially those who really need that time spent with them.
