Three people have been arrested in a meth lab bust in McDermott including Cecilia Lennex, 30, of 7751 Ohio 104; Paul D. Hatfield, 44, of the same address; and Robert T. Sperry, of 2323 Argonne Rd., in Portsmouth. Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini and Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware announced that on Thursday, June 1, at approximately 8:30 p.m., three individuals were arrested on methamphetamine related charges at a residence located on State Route 104.
The incident occurred in an attempt to pickup Lennex on a probation violations. After receiving information from the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, probation officers with the Portsmouth Municipal Court Probation Department attempted to apprehend Lennex at her residence. An arrest warrant that had been issued by Portsmouth Municipal Court for violating probation. During the arrest, officers discovered a one pot methamphetamine lab present. A task force detective along with deputies from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and an officer with the Portsmouth Police Department responded to the scene to assist in the investigation and dismantle the methamphetamine lab.
During the investigation, one pot meth producing vessel, suspected methamphetamine and several materials and chemicals used for the production of methamphetamine were discovered on the scene.
Lennex and Hatfield, who share the residence, were both arrested and charged with illegal manufacture of drugs within the vicinity of a juvenile, a felony of the first degree. Sperry, who was at the residence during the time of the arrest, was charged with possession of suspected methamphetamine, a felony of the fifth degree.
All arrestees were placed in the Scioto County Jail and were arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Friday, June 2. The case will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office to be presented to a Scioto County Grand Jury for the consideration of additional felony charges. Additional arrests are expected to be made in the case.
