If you have seen people leisurely riding their bicycles around the area and would like to try bicycle riding as a fun activity but didn’t know where to start, Jenn Kish, clerk of the Scioto County Commissioners, has the answer.
“It is a Rookie Ride. It is a beginner bike-riding class,” Kish said. ‘We will meet at the (Scioto County) Courthouse on Thursdays, beginning April 13 at 4:45 p.m.”
Kish said it is a ride that allows you to be a first-time rider and go directly into a bicycle ride with no effort.
“You can go from the couch, if you sit on the couch all winter long, you can get out and get on the bike,” Kish said. “It’s slow-paced and its for anybody from a small child to 70, 80, 90 years old. It’s adapted to the people who show up for the ride.”
Don’t have a bike? No problem.
“I have extra bikes, so you just contact me at the Scioto County Commissioners Office at 740-355-8202,” Kish said. “Or you can get on the Portsmouth Connex Facebook page and leave any messages there. If you have any questions or you would like a private ride, I’m willing to do that as well. If Thursdays don’t work, we can do it another day.”
Kish added that there is no charge for any of the events in the Free Community Wellness event schedule. In addition to Jenn’s Rookie Ride, the Portsmouth Connex Run/Walk group will step off on Mondays at 5:15 p.m. at Portsmouth Brewing Company beginning April 24.
Walking With Jill will be Wednesdays at 6 p.m. starting April 5 meeting on the front steps of the Portsmouth Life Center.
Betty’s Rookie Ride begins April 4 and meets at Coffee at the Lofts on the Fourth Street parking lot on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.
The Wednesday Walmart Walkers meet at the stop sign in front of Walmart on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
Biking with Bill starts April 6 on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. at the covered bridge in Otway.
