Nutrition is a vital component to our everyday lives. We need nutrition to keep us going; our bodies need food and drinks to enable us to do everyday tasks. However, did you every stop to realize the foods and drinks you are putting into your body and what they may be doing to your overall health? When you stop to think about that question, concerns may begin to arise.

The first step to overall health is being aware and educated on the food choices you are making day to day. Aiming for choices that are healthy for you is the first key to success in overall health. Although to some this may seem like an easy task, just choose foods that are healthy like fruits and vegetables, right? To some it may be easy, but to others it may be an obstacle to accomplish. The only way to make a change is to take it one step at a time. Change does not happen in one day, it is a process. Changing eating habits to become healthier is not a diet but rather a lifestyle change.

Making healthier food choices is one way to improve your health. Education and information about the importance of healthier food choices for overall health can be provided by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. They are able to provide patients with the knowledge and tools they need to make changes in their lives. Along with providing the patients with the knowledge and resources they need, they can begin to develop and make healthy eating a habit. Working alongside the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, the patient can develop plans and outcomes that will be attainable for them personally. It is important again to emphasize that change is a process and can take time before any results may occur.

Physical activity plays an important factor in overall health. Engaging in physical activity can do many things to benefit your body. If you don’t feel comfortable doing a certain form of physical activity, for instance running, then try walking. Each form of physical activity isn’t for everyone; the important thing to realize is that physical activity should be one that is fitting to you.

The importance of good nutrition and physical activity are vital to good health. Informing and educating the public about these two important factors, can be the positive light they need to make the changes in their lives. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists can be the advocates that the public needs to hear in order to make changes happen.
