A double shooting resulting in the deaths of two people kept Portsmouth Police detectives busy overnight and the Scioto County Coroner says he has limited information until autopsies are completed.
At around 12:35 a.m. Saturday, the Portsmouth Police Department responded to the Edendale Road area of Eden Park to a a report of two subjects possibly being shot.
When officers arrived at the scene they said they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. Both subjects were pronounced dead at the scene and Scioto County Coroner Dr. Darren Adams was called to that scene. Adams said he was called at about 1:50 a.m.
Captain Lynn Brewer said the incident is believed to be domestic related and there is no reason to believe that there is any danger to any other residents of the area.
Since the police described the incident as a “domestic,” the Daily Times asked if it appeared to be a murder-suicide.
“It appears to be a murder-suicide,” Adams told the Times. “That is subject to change depending on what the pathologist says, but that’s what it appears to be, but it is still under investigation.”
Adams ordered the bodies transported to the Montgomery County Morgue for autopsy.
Names of the victims are being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives. The investigation is continuing and further details will be released as they become available.
Brewer said anyone who may have additional information is encouraged to contact detective Chuck Crapyou or detective Steve Brewer. Both men can be reached at the Detective Division at 740-354-1600 or the Police Dispatch line at 740-353-4101.
