SCHULTZ CREEK, Ky. — Bryson General Store (BGS) located at 2378 State Route 784 will host their annual ‘Christmas in the Country’ event, Saturday Dec. 17, at noon. The event will include local Bluegrass pickers, a book signing and brown bean fundraiser lunch.
Christmas in the Country will offer delightful sounds of Bluegrass music, book signing and shopping, the 106-year old BGS will host a brown bean and baked goods fundraiser to help with travel expenses to help local girls participate in a spring break softball trip, according to Bonnie Bryson, one of the BGS proprietors.
“This is probably the fifth one that we have done. I do think that it is important to the community. It sort of helps to preserve the culture, and gives folks a chance to do an old fashion Christmas event and get together as a community,” Bryson said. “There is no admission fee, and the lunch is a fundraiser, but people can come out and not spend anything, if they just want to come and listen to the music, look around and visit. it is really special, celebrating old time Christmas songs and traditions. The 106-year old store will ring with the sounds of bluegrass music provided by local musicians.”
Tom Clay, will be among the entertainers at the Christmas in the Country event.
“Tom Clay, former Opryland entertainer will be there, bringing his voice and personality to join in with the pickers on Saturday. Carol Jayne Wagner coordinates the pickers and expressed excitement about the Christmas event,”she said. “We look forward to as many regulars as possible being there, as well as anyone new who wants to join the circle. Having Tom join in will be a special treat.”
Soc Clay will be conducting a book signing of his latest book entitled, ‘Hunting Kentucky.’
“Soc Clay, internationally-known photo-journalist, will be on hand to sign his newest book, ‘Hunting Kentucky.’ Clay says that his book tells the complete story about hunting and hunters that extends from wildlife in pre-settlement to Kentucky’s great wildlife management successes,” she said.
In addition to the merchandise offerings, including their signature line of stoneware, a large selection of Lodge cast iron cookware, and many hard to find hardware items, Bryson’s has a variety of gift ideas. These include limited edition fan gear including caps and T-shirts, celebrating Schultz Creek Bearcats Baseball’s 50th Season, as well as nostalgic McKell High T-shirts and crocks, according to Bryson.
BGS is located three miles from South Shore at the junction of KY State Routes 784 and 3308. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday, with music monthly on the third Saturday.
