Santa Claus came laden with ‘lots’ of toys to The Counseling Center’s Clubhouse on Saturday for the Portsmouth Motorcycle Club’s Annual Toy Run event.
Jim Altman, manager of The Clubhouse, said events such as the Annual Toy Run are crucial to many local families.
“Events like this are important because there are a lot of people out there who have children and can’t afford to buy them Christmas, and it’s not the children’s fault,” Altman said. “So, when need to help those children, give them a little hope and spirit.
Carlie Jones and Williams George Jones, Sr. brought their newborn son William George Jones, Jr. to the Toy Run, and said the event helped their family tremendously.
“It takes people with a lot of heart to do something like this, and just the fact that everybody kind of pitched in, and came to help out people like ourselves, who are not at the best of times right is really great,” William George Jones, Sr. said.
Carlie Jones expressed her appreciation as well.
“This will be our son’s first Christmas, and this is a blessing,” Carlie Jones said.”The Toy Run is the best thing ever.”
Tequila, of the Portsmouth Motor Club, said their efforts are centered around helping children.
“This is an event that we have been putting on for a few years now. It’s a Toy Run for children in the community,” Tequila said. “It is done by all donations, from all over Scioto County. Each year we sort of take it to a different area, and this year we’re doing The Clubhouse. Everybody meets at the Portsmouth Motorcycle Club, and it’s a $10 unwrapped, or a $10 donation. We all get together, and this is what we do. The biker community all over this nation is big at supporting the children. If there are kids out there that’s not going to really have anything for Christmas without us being here, then we are more than happy to be here to help so that they do have a good Christmas.”
Altman said the Toy Run went remarkably well.
“Everything was just wonderful,” Altman said. “We are taking the names now, and putting them in a hat, and will start to draw the names and start giving away all of the gifts. We greatly appreciate the Portsmouth Motorcycle Club, and everything that they have done to help so many families for Christmas.
