T’is the season to be a senior citizen, age 55 and up, as the senior group, Alive & Kicking (A &K) will host A “Very Merry” Christmas Party, Saturday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the 14th Street Community Center, 1222 14th Street in Portsmouth.
The group ensures that attendees will have a joyful time of fun and fellowship with friends and neighbors. Refreshments will be served. Participants are encouraged to bring their guest or a spouse to this event.
Bill Netter, president of A & K, said hosting the ‘Very Merry Christmas’ Party is their way of rallying the seniors together.
“We are having this Christmas gathering for anyone that is age 55 and up just our way of bringing our seniors in the community together, so anybody in that age group is welcome,” Netter said. “There will be light refreshments like cookies and punch, and some games. We just want to get the community involved to have a little bit of fun for the holidays.”
A & K endeavors to provide activities for seniors to stay engaged and active.
“We try to host some type of activity every two to three months, just to make sure that the senior citizens in our area have something to do,” Netter said. “It is just important as you get older, to stay active and stay connected to others.”
There is no cost for admission to the ‘Very Merry Christmas’ Party.
David Malone, vice president of A & K, said the event is ideal for the season.
“With this being the Christmas season, we just wanted to reach out to our community to have a time of fellowship and get-together for all of the seniors who are age 55 and up to come out and have a great time,” Malone said.
A & K holds their regular monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. at the 14Th Street Community Center. The meetings are open to all members of the community age 55 and up.
