The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has awarded a $31.7 million dollar contract to Sunesis Construction Company. Work is being done to improve and rebuild parts of Lake White and surrounding roadways in Pike County. The Lake White Improvement Project is a collaboration between the Ohio Department of Natural Recourses (ODNR) and ODOT.

In 2014, ODNR noticed there was some seepage leaking from the Lake White Dam. ODRN officials examined the issue and what needed to be done to fix them.

“This is a joint partnership with ODNR and for our (ODOT) part of the project, we are replacing the bridge on (Ohio Route) 104 and the roadway will be reconstructed and widened,” said Kathleen Fuller, ODOT District 9 spokeswoman said.

She said the scope of the project also includes turn lanes being constructed at Ohio Route 551 and 552 and reconstructing the intersection on County Road 105.

“That will be a massive reconstruction for the roadway. The ODNR part, they will be improving and making repairs to the dam to meet all regulatory requirements. They are going to reinforce the west bank on 104. They are going complete the drain of the lake and relocate a section of crooked creek,” Fuller said.

Fuller said it’s anticipated the project will get started very soon, with an anticipated late fall of 2016 completion. She said over the course of the project traffic will be diverted.

“State Route 104 will be closed for about 300 days, with traffic being diverted,” Fuller said. “They will also be closing sections of 551 and 552 at different times.”

Fuller said the people that live along State Route 551 and 552 will be detoured to State Route 220 out of Waverly. She said those seeking to travel 104 north will be diverted to State Route 32 then State Route 23.

Fuller said a timeline has yet to be established for the project. She said the contractor and ODOT will schedule a meeting to establish a timeline.
