When you stop in Sonora Mexican Grill, 1701 Grandview Avenue in Portsmouth on Saturday, Dec. 3, for lunch or dinner, a percentage of the proceeds will go to the Faternal Order of Police (FOP) ‘Shop With a Cop’ program.
Owners of Sonora Mexican Grill are partnering with the FOP, for their annual Shop With a Cop program which helps to provide gifts to needy children in the local community for Christmas. Tonya Miranda, co-owner of Sonora’s, said the Christmas season is an ideal time to extend compassion to those in need.
“Perhaps in the holiday season, more than at any other time, our hearts go out to others, but there are always those who are less fortunate than we are and will appreciate our help all year round,” Miranda said. “We feel blessed to be able to give back to this wonderful community. Come out and show your support.”
Officer Michael Queen, of the Portsmouth Police Department and FOP Lodge 33, expressed appreciation to the ownership of Sonora’s for their assistance with Shop With a Cop, as well as the community.
“First off, FOP Lodge 33 would like to thank Tonya and all the employees at Sonora’s. Without their help in raising funds we would not be able to help struggling families or less fortunate children this Christmas. We are in the community everyday and most of the time we are doing our jobs, enforcing the laws and taking reports,” Queen said. “This is a way for the Members of FOP 33 and the Portsmouth Police Department to give back to the community. This is a positive thing we are trying to do and what a great community we have, so why not give back. We appreciate all the support we receive from our community, all year not just around the holidays. From a friendly wave, to someone unexpectedly buying an officer a cup of coffee or yes, even a donut. If anyone would like to donate you can look up info on the Police Department’s Facebook page. We are not going door to door soliciting funds. If someone shows up saying they are with the FOP or Police Department call 740-353-4101 and report them.”
Sonora Mexican Grill hours of operation are Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
