LUCASVILLE — Joel Communications, LLC, is open for business. Angela Duduit, owner and president , said she formed the company with the goal of meeting public relations needs of small businesses and non-profit organizations in Southern Ohio.
Duduit established Joel Communications, LLC in May of 2016, bringing more than 25 years of experience from her former employment to the table, as well as newly acquired experience from her present employment.
“I worked at the Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, where I’d worked for over 25 years, and on September 11th of last year, an ironic date, the Government informed us they were pulling the plug on our project. That put me at risk in the job market,” she said. “I did get to stay about seven months after that, and then Shawnee State University was very nice to offer me an opportunity here as the Coordinator for Workforce Development and Entrepreneurship. Before I left my job at the Plant I started getting calls from people who were interested in me doing work for them in public relations, because that is what I’d done for so many years at the Plant.”
In addition to her extensive work history and experience related to her new business, Duduit also possesses a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Master of Science in Journalism, both from Ohio University.
Remarkably, everything has worked together, encouraging Duduit to pursue entrepreneurship herself.
“That is what encouraged me to do a business on the side, to continue doing that kind of work well,” she said. “It all kind of worked out that I became the Coordinator of Workforce Development and Entrepreneurship here at Shawnee, because I am an entrepreneur now. I am also going to a lot entrepreneur type programs, and learning about how to promote entrepreneurship here on campus and across the community. So it is a good fit that I am an entrepreneur myself, and starting my own company to operate on the side of my full-time job.”
She felt it was time to increase the momentum of her own business.
“I actually have had a couple of clients already, but I recently took the plunge to make it public so that I could start getting some more business,” she said. “So I have been planning it, and working on it since May. I lost my job in April, and started my new job at Shawnee State University in April as well, so I have been very involved with learning the new job. I have been learning a lot about entrepreneurship through my job at Shawnee State. In fact, I just attended an entrepreneurship in Appalachia Conference down in Prestonsburg last week.”
Joel Communications will accommodate a host of needs of small businesses and organizations.
“There are a lot of small businesses, non-profit organizations in the area who obviously do not have a ton of money to do communication, whereas I feel like communication is one of the most important things that you need for a small business to be successful,” she said. “Some of them may not know how to go about getting a website set up, or maintained or creating a presence on social media, getting publicity out, or getting advertising. I’m looking at solutions for those types of people who do not have the ability to hire a full-time public relations or communications person to do this for them, or perhaps do not have the skills themselves. They might be an entrepreneur who understands the business of what they’re doing, but they don’t know how to communicate to others what they are doing, and that is where my business would come in.”

Joel Communications, is operated out of Duduit’s home in Lucasville. She said she dedicates her new business to God.
“I am operating out of my home. It is kind of a family business. My husband writes, and is also a very good salesman, so he can help me,” she said. “My son has knowledge in finance and accounting. He understands numbers, and is a senior finance major at Marshall University. His girlfriend is getting ready to graduate with PR in Marketing degree, so my family can be a great support to me in this effort. Joel is actually my oldest son’s middle name, but the definition also is Jahweh is God. I have dedicated this business to God, and to God be all the glory for the success that it may have.”
