Though the election is over, the Scioto County Board of Elections (SCBE) still had some work yet to do concerning it. Staff of the SCBE, and four board members gathered at the office on Saturday to conduct the Official Count of the General Election.
Julia Gearheart, director of the SCBE, said the Official Count is routinely done after a General Election.
“It is pretty standard. Nothing has changed from the past,” Gearheart said.”Today the board will meet to accept or reject the provisionals of the absentees that have come in after the election that were post marked by the deadline. Then, we will do the Official Count, and we’ll scan all of the provisionals that were accepted, and to the Official.
Provisionals are thoroughly examined by SCBE, to ensure their legitimacy, according to Gearheart.
“With the provisionals, we make sure that the envelopes and everything that was on the envelopes are acceptable,” she said. “The name, the address, the identification, everything such as that. Also, the signature has to be on their as well, and making sure that they voted in the proper precinct.
Additionally, the SCBE changed the regular monthly meeting from Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, to immediately following the Official Count on Saturday.
