SOUTH SHORE, Ky. — The ‘Fill the Fire Truck’ event scheduled to be held at the Cash Express, 509 Main Street in South Shore, Ky. on Saturday was canceled due to inclement weather. Consequently, the toy collection for underprivileged children still carried on.
‘Fill the Fire Truck’ was an collaborative effort between Cash Express and The South Shore Fire Department who would supply the fire truck to gather toys both new and used, coats, and other items to be given to make Christmas a reality students in need at McKell Elementary and Vern Riffe School. However, with possible inclement weather in the forecast, on Saturday, plans to utilize the fire truck were thwarted.
Melissa Napier, manager of Cash Express, said the store will host a Breakfast With Santa event at the 509 Main Street location on Dec. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Yes. We had to reschedule due to the weather. The Fire Department called and said they would not be bringing the truck over,” Napier said. “We still wanted to make sure that we did something for the children, so now we will host a Breakfast With Santa on December 10th.”
Cash Express continued to collect toys for kids throughout the day on Saturday, and Napier said anyone who wishes to donate toys, new or used may stop in at any Cash Express store in the area to do so.
Additionally, donations may also be dropped off at Helping Hands of Greenup County, 412 Main Street in downtown Greenup, Ky.
“We will continue to take donations, this is something that we do each year to help out the children and families in the local area, and all donations are greatly appreciated,” she said.
