Thanksgiving Dinner at Wheelersburg School Cafetorium

The Wheelersburg area will again this year be blessed with a free community dinner. This annual event is sponsored by four area churches: St. John Lutheran, St. Peter in Chains Catholic, Wheelersburg United Methodist and Haverhill United Methodist. Preparation will begin at 5 a.m. to cook the meal which will feed approximately 1,000 people. Dozens of volunteers from each church help prepare, serve and cleanup the meal. A traditional feast of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, coleslaw, rolls and dessert are planned. The dinner is always on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. This year the date is Nov. 19, from noon until 2 p.m. Again, this year the dinner will be at the Wheelersburg School Cafetorium, please use the high school entrance. First Presbyterian Church

We would like to invite you to attend a Community Thanksgiving Service to be held at First Presbyterian Church (Third & Court street, Portsmouth) on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at 6 p.m. A wide variety of pastors will be participating. Special Music will be provided by Portia Williams and Ron Anderson. What a great opportunity to give praise to the Lord together for His goodness to us. All Saints’ Episcopal Church

All Saints’ is hosting the Portsmouth Civic Chorale’s Christmas Concert rehearsals on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Join us for Wednesday evening worship at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov.20 at 2 p.m., Shane Claiborne, author of Executing Grace, will lead a community forum in the parish hall. St. John Lutheran Church

St. John Lutheran Church invites you to come worship with us. We are located at 5600 Junior Furnace/ Powellsville Road, Franklin Furnace. Sunday morning worship begins at 10:30 with Pastor Carl Beck. Children’s Church is provided. St. John will be participating with other area churches in hosting a Community Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner is Saturday, November 19, at noon in the Wheelersburg High School. This meal is free and open to everyone. Please come and join us. On Sunday, Nov. 20, we will join with other area churches with a Joint Thanksgiving Service at the Haverhill United Methodist Church. Pastor Beck will bring the message. We invite everyone to join us at this special service.

First Church of Christ

The congregation of the First Church of Christ, 1224 Dogwood Ridge Road, Wheelersburg, will serve as an OCC Relay Center from Monday, Nov. 14, through Monday, Nov. 21. Hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, through Friday, Nov. 18, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20; and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21.

Regular Sunday services include Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and worship services at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The adult choir’s practice for the Christmas cantata starts at 5:15 p.m.

Ladies meet for Bible study at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday at the office annex. All ladies are invited to attend Bible study.

Rase Martin leads devotions at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the River Bend House in Wheelersburg. Praise, prayer and Bible study, which is led by Rase Martin, begins at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

Community of Christ

Community of Christ 2237 Russell Avenue West Portsmouth will hold no 10:30 a.m. Morning Worship services on Sunday, Nov. 20, at the West Portsmouth Branch. Saints are invited to the 10:30 a.m. Morning Worship hour at Pleasant Valley Branch to hear the message of Shane Claiborne. Fellowship will continue at Pleasant Valley after the Morning Worship time with a carry-in luncheon. All are welcome.

The Evangelical United Church of Christ or E.U.C.C. We have services every Sunday at 10 a.m., So we would like to post that in the church services. We will also be having a Christmas Craft Bazaar Dec. 10 and 11. There will be crafters, vendors and other goodies. We are fundraising for the church.
